Abbas Slams Israel’s Policy of Ethnic Cleansing
Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas said Israel uses “heinous methods and policies” to erase the Arab, Islamic and Christian character of occupied East Jerusalem (al-Quds).
The Palestinian Authority chief said on Sunday the Israeli government exercises various methods to ensure its total control over East Jerusalem.
Abbas made the remarks during the three-day International Conference for the Defense of Occupied Jerusalem, which began in the Qatari capital Doha on Sunday.
Abbas added that Israel aims to “Judaize the Old City” in al-Quds through “changing the landscape, carrying out ethnic cleansing against Palestinians and destroying the infrastructure and economic resources” in the area.
Abbas also called on the attendants of the conference to support Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem and their resistance against Israeli plots.
About 350 representatives from Arab, Islamic and other countries have participated in the three-day Doha conference and they will mainly discuss issues including the legal status of East Jerusalem before and after the Israeli occupation and the reality and the future of the Arab city under occupation.
