Dr. Mustapha Al-Barghouti, head of the Palestinian Initiative and member of the Palestinian Legislative Council said in press statement that Israel’s actions in al-Fawwar refugee camp in the West Bank amounts to “a massacre” and collective punishment.

Israeli forces withdrew from al-Fawwar refugee camp on Tuesday after being deployed in the camp for nearly 24 hours, in a massive military onslaught that killed Mohammed Abuhashhash, 17 and 5o others injured by Israeli fire.

Al-Barghouti added that the situation in al-Fawwar “reminds us of the massacres committed against the Palestinian people in 1948 – the killing of people and destruction of properties.”

Al-Barghouti asserted that IDF soldiers are carrying out a crackdown on Palestinians.

Witnesses told Ma’an that medics were prevented from accessing the site, and that Israeli soldiers stopped an ambulance belonging to the Palestinian Red Crescent which was trying to evacuate a seriously injured young man, preventing the ambulance from leaving the camp for an hour.

He further called for escalating the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel to stop Israel from carrying out violations, as was the case in South Africa.

Al-Barghouti also praised Palestinian youth in al-Fawwar refugee camp for defying the Israeli occupation.
