Israeli Raid Injures Five Gaza Civilians

Palestinian medical sources say four children and a woman were injured in an Israeli raid on the occupied Gaza Strip after rockets were at Israel.

The five Palestinian civilians were hit by shrapnel but their wounds are not life-threatening, the sources told Al Jazeera on Thursday.

The military says five rockets fired toward southern Israel early on Thursday were intercepted by the army’s Iron Dome anti-missile system. The rockets caused no injuries or damage.

In response to the rocket fire, the army says it has hit targets in Gaza, including a rocket launcher and weapons facilities.

The air strike targeted a camp used for training by the Ezzedine Qassam Brigades, an affiliate of Hamas, Palestinian security officials told AFP news agency.

In a previous raid on Monday, jets retaliated to rockets fired on southern Israel following the burial of the former Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, at his ranch near the border with Gaza.

Sharon died on Saturday after eight years in a coma brought on by a stroke.
