A Palestinian lawmaker in the Israeli parliament has warned Tel Aviv that its continued marginalization of Arab Israeli citizens could trigger a third intifada.

An article published by the UK's Guardian newspaper on Sunday, Hanin Zuabi said Arab citizens are feeling increasingly isolated by the Israeli political and legal systems.

"It took us 40 years for us to admit that we were even Palestinians. Another 15 years passed before we realized that the peace process started under Oslo had been a disaster," the London-based paper quoted Zuabi as saying.

She went on to accuse the Zionist regime of enforcing a project of "domesticating its Arab citizens as the hewers and drawers of water."

"But the carrot-and-stick approach failed, and now we see Israel is prepared to throw away its liberal side to control us. We were passive once and now we are becoming active about our national identity," Zuabi noted.

Zuabi has been in the spotlight since her participation in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla which came under a deadly attack in international waters by Israeli navy commandos.

A deputy for Balad party in the Israeli parliament (Knesset), Zuabi was partly stripped of her parliamentary privileges over her companion of the civilian aid convoy, which gave Israel a serious headache.

Zuabi was threatened by fellow MPs who even moved to push and harass her upon appearing in a Knesset session short after the May 31 Flotilla attack.
