A source in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement in the West Bank village of Qabatya said fighters belonging to the military wing of the movement have exchanged fire with invading Israeli forces in Jenin as they attempted to demolish a house belonging to the family of a Palestinian prisoner in Israel.

A former Palestinian prisoner who was among the fighters, and an Israeli soldier from the Israeli forces were injured last night when IDF forces tried to demolish the house of Palestinian prisoner, Bilal Abuzeid.

A source in the Islamic Jihad movement, and Israeli sources confirmed that the shooting was the first of its kind in Jenin in recent years.

The source added, “The fighting in Qabatya is a message to the Israeli occupation forces that the Palestinian people will not let the occupation forces destroy our houses easily.”

He added, “What happened last night in the village and the participation of youths in the fighting and in supporting Palestinian fighters, is evidence of this. It took the Israeli occupation forces five hours to withdraw from the village.”
