89-year-old Mahmoud Abbas, whose presidential mandate expired in 2009, has been the PA President since the death of Yasser Arafat in 2004.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has said that Hamas “will no longer rule Gaza and must hand over its weapons” to the “Palestinian Security Forces,” French media reported on Tuesday.

Abbas’ statements came in a letter on Monday addressed to French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who will co-chair a conference under UN auspices this month on the implementation of the two-state solution.

“Hamas will no longer rule Gaza and must hand over its weapons and military capabilities to the Palestinian Security Forces,” Abbas wrote in the letter, in which he outlined his suggestions on steps to end the situation in the Gaza Strip as well as “peace in the Middle East,” according to France 24.

He added that he was “ready to invite Arab and international forces to be deployed as part of a stabilisation/protection mission with a (UN) Security Council mandate”.

‘Clear Timeline’

The PA leader also reportedly wrote, “We are ready to conclude within a clear and binding timeline, and with international support, supervision and guarantees, a peace agreement that ends the Israeli occupation and resolves all outstanding and final status issues.”

In addition, according to the New York Times, Abbas condemned the October 7 operation, calling it “unacceptable and reprehensible” and called on Hamas to “immediately release all hostages and captives.”

PA ‘Reform’

Abbas also “reaffirmed his commitment to reform the Palestinian Authority,” France 24 reported, and said he intended to hold presidential and general elections “within a year.” Elections would take place under international auspices, the report said.

“The Palestinian State should be the sole provider of security on its territory, but has no intention to be a militarized State,” he said.

‘Political Necessity’ – Macron

According to the report, Macron welcomed “concrete and unprecedented commitments, demonstrating a real willingness to move towards the implementation of the two-state solution”.

Macron has previously said that the recognition of a Palestinian state with conditions was “not only a moral duty, but a political necessity.”

Reuters reported that Macron’s office said that the letter from Abbas contains “unprecedented” pledges.

PA ‘Under Pressure’

For its part, The Times of Israel reported on Tuesday that the PA “has been under pressure from Arab and Western states to undergo significant reform as they push for the body to replace Hamas as Gaza’s governing authority.”

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused “to entertain the option of allowing the PA to return to governing Gaza,” the paper said.

89-year-old Abbas, whose presidential mandate expired in 2009, has been the leader of the PA since the death of Yasser Arafat in 2004.

Ongoing Genocide in Gaza

Since Israel’s reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, it has killed and wounded thousands of Palestinians throughout the Gaza Strip through a bloody and ongoing aerial bombardment.

On October 7, 2023, following a Palestinian Resistance operation in southern Israel, the Israeli military launched a genocidal war against the Palestinians, killing over 54,800, wounding more than 126,000, with over 14,000 still missing.

Despite habitual condemnation by many countries around the world of the Israeli genocide, little has been done to hold Israel accountable.

Israel is currently under investigation for the crime of genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals — including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — are now officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.

The Israeli genocide has been largely defended, supported, and financed by Washington and a few other Western powers.

  1. Hamas has been a violent radical Islamic terrorist organization disguised as the Gaza government. Their mission if the destruction of Israel and death of as many Jews as possible. Mahmoud Abbas experienced PA supporters being arrested, tortured and killed by Hamas. Finally he is speaking our against Hamas, while the rest of the Middle East are silently waiting for Israel to destroy Hamas.

    • Another comment where a zionist is spewing so many lies in very few lines.
“Hamas has been a violent radical Islamic terrorist organization”
So zionists were throwing roses at Palestinians and blowing them kisses but the “bad and ungrateful” Palestinians created khamas to just kill “Jews” for fun, right? To the best of my knowledge, the Islamic RESISTANCE movement of Hamas was created in 1987 as a response to more than 4 decades of zionist massacres, apartheid and ethnic cleansing against the indigenous people of the land. Armed resistance is not terrorism. It is a right to which Palestinians are entitled even in international law. Occupation, however, is very well an act of terrorism.

    • “…disguised as the Gaza government.”
No, they are not. Hamas is INDEED the government. They won the majority of seats in the election.
“Their mission if the destruction of Israel and death of as many Jews as possible.”
I already answered this in part in the first comment. But here is the rest. Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, founder of Hamas, had reitrated that the invaders’ faith means nothing, and that zionists are the enemy because they are occupying Palestine, not because they are Jews. Hamas’s charter clearly states that Palestinians from all faiths have the right to live in Palestine. A country where people from all religions were living in peace before British and zionist occupation.

    • Zionists never hesitate before they label Hamas as a “terrorist” organization. But On the other side, “the most moral army” of the “only democracy in the Middle-east” had to bomb every country in the region and beyond just to “exist” and “secure its existance”. That says a lot, No?
“Mahmoud Abbas experienced PA supporters being arrested, tortured and killed by Hamas”
Fourth lie so far. It is quite the opposite actually. Fighters from Hamas and Islamic Jihad are captured by PA and tortured there. A quick glance in this platform alone can attest to this claim. Besides, PA are just a bunch traitors helping the zionists doing their dirty work. No more, No less.

    • “Finally he is speaking our against Hamas, while the rest of the Middle East are silently waiting for Israel to destroy Hamas.”
Two lies combined in one, making it a total of 6 lies in barely 4 lines.
Abbas, who publicly expressed his “gratitude” to the zionist crime minister Mileikowsky, has been vocal about opposing Hamas for years. This is not something new.
But the most blatant lie of all is your claim that middle-east is waiting for zios to destroy Hamas. Omit the fact that Hamas will not be defeated. Have you even heard what people in ME are chanting during their manifestations in support of Gaza and its resistance?? Arab rulers are traitors and against Hamas. But not the citizens.

  2. “Hamas will no longer rule Gaza and must hand over its weapons and military capabilities to the Palestinian Security Forces,” Abbas wrote..
It’s like frustrated Netanyahu&co are now readying to use Abbas to achieve what months of reckless wars couldn’t achieve.
No one is going to lay down arms until Israel Occupation force as well as armed settlers drop their weapons, Netanyahu&his partners should get that into their heads.
And Abbas Israel-made govt is not going to rule Gaza neither soon nor later.
This Abbas has to live&die with.
Abbas has chosen to collaborate with US&Israel to achieve his personal ambitions.
Those for the Palestinians would rather choose a pure&secure path.

  3. Bullsh!t, Angelique…

Besides, Hamas has consistently tried for peace. That is public information, unless someone is going on outdated info, disinformation, propaganda. And Abbas has no room to speak about October 7th since he was obviously part of the false flag, where ” Israel ” killed its own people in friendly-fire incidents, or under the Hannibal Directive. That was a concerted effort on the parts of many factions, not just Hamas. And Nazinyahu allowed it to happen, only as justification so he could continue murdering Arab children. The Israeli Nazis are the scum of the Earth. And Hamas keeps trying for peace while ” Israel ” and America veto each proposal. Who’s the bad guy there??
