UNICEF warned that Gaza’s children have endured “two years of hellish war,” with tens of thousands killed, maimed, or displaced.
Israeli occupation forces are killing an average of two medical workers every day and causing 13 amputations every two days, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office on Tuesday, cited by Al Mayadeen.
The office reported that one Palestinian journalist is killed every three days and a civil defense worker every five days. It added that Israeli attacks injure around 232 people daily, more than half of them women and children.
A devastating toll affecting medical workers, journalists, and civil defense teams continues to mount in Gaza amid relentless Israeli attacks. The statement also said that Israel’s ongoing bombardment has resulted in paralysis or loss of vision for six Palestinians every two days, detailing that the healthcare system faces more than one direct military attack each day.
“These figures reflect the daily toll of the ongoing genocide in the Gaza Strip,” the Government Media Office said.
Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, now in its third year, has devastated Gaza’s medical sector, with hospitals operating far beyond capacity and severe shortages of essential supplies hindering care for the wounded and displaced amid total Israeli blockade, the Al Mayadeen report stated.
‘64,000 Children Killed, Maimed’
The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday warned that Gaza’s children have endured “two years of hellish war,” with tens of thousands killed, maimed, or displaced amid ongoing Israeli bombardment and deepening famine.
“For more than 700 days, children in Gaza have been killed, maimed, and displaced in a devastating war that is an affront to our shared humanity,” UNICEF chief Catherine Russell said in a statement.
She added that “Israeli strikes on Gaza City and other parts of the Gaza Strip continue. The world cannot, and must not, allow this to go on.”
In the last two years, a staggering 64,000 children have reportedly been killed or maimed across the Gaza Strip, including at least 1,000 babies.

A staggering “64,000 children have reportedly been killed or maimed across the Gaza Strip, including at least 1,000 babies,” Russel noted.
She stressed that “famine persists in Gaza City and is spreading to the south, where children are already living in dire conditions.”
“The crisis of malnutrition, especially among infants, remains shocking,” she said, adding that “months without adequate food have caused lasting harm to children’s growth and development.”
Calling the situation “an affront to humanity,” Russell stressed that “the need for a ceasefire could not be more urgent,” noting that “at least 14 children have reportedly been killed” since Saturday amid continued Israeli bombing.
Babies Sharing Oxygen Masks
UNICEF warned that newborn babies in Gaza are being forced to share oxygen masks as Israel continues to block the transfer of vital medical equipment.
“We’re talking about children sharing oxygen masks in order to stay alive and those requests have been declined day in and day out and we’re still waiting today hopefully for that to happen,” Ricardo Peres, UNICEF Deputy Spokesperson, told a press briefing in Geneva.
Israel has denied five humanitarian missions to retrieve incubators and oxygen for newborns in #Gaza.

James Elder, UNICEF spokesperson, said Israel has denied five missions to retrieve incubators and oxygen for premature newborns.
“Each delay of humanitarian missions and aid costs lives. Whatever happens next — babies are dying now, and lifesaving aid is still being blocked,” the UN agency said.
Missions Denied
The UN humanitarian office reported that Israel has denied or impeded 45% of its 8,000 requested missions in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
UNICEF has urged the evacuation of ill and premature babies still in northern Gaza hospitals. While the WHO recently transferred three infants to southern hospitals, one tragically died before the mission could be completed. Currently, only 14 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are at least partially operational, according to WHO data.
Two Years into Gaza’s Genocide: UN Warns of Starvation and a Dying Generation
“International humanitarian law is clear: we call on Israel to ensure the full protection of the lives of all civilians. Denying humanitarian assistance to civilians is unequivocally prohibited,” UNICEF said. The agency stressed adherence to the principles of distinction, proportionality, and precaution, noting that civilians who cannot evacuate or choose not to must always be protected.
“Every child killed is an irreplaceable loss. For the sake of all children in Gaza, this war must end now.”
Ongoing Genocide
Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 67,000 Palestinians, with more than 169,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.

In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.
Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
