The Israeli occupation municipality in Jerusalem has forced a Palestinian to partially demolish his house in Jerusalem yesterday claiming it was built without a permit.

Sameh Dikik, 43, said the Israeli municipality in Jerusalem had warned him of demolishing his newly built room a month ago. To avoid being fined 60,000 NIS (16,000 USD), he was compelled to demolish it himself.

Dikik, who lives with his wife and children in a single room in Jerusalem, decided to expand the house and build one more room for the children, but the Israeli municipality considered this action illegal as he did not obtain the required permit.

The Israeli municipality very often denies Palestinians in Jerusalem these permits.

In contrast, the Israeli government issues thousands of permits for Israelis who want to build in Jerusalem and publishes tenders to build thousands of housing units in the city for Jews only, in order to change the demographics of the city at the expense of Palestinians.
