Nearly 4,000 Babies Born in Gaza in May

The Ministry of Interior in Gaza has revealed yesterday that 3,894 new babies were born Gaza in May. The Ministry said that on average, 125 babies were born per day, while 276 deaths were reported during the same period.

The Ministry added that Gaza city had 1514 newborns, while 785 were born in Khan Younis, 751 in northern Gaza, 524 in the central area of Gaza, and 500 in Rafah, in the south.

Child mortality rates have reached 130 in Gaza city, 57 in Khan Younis, 31 in the central area, and 31 in southern and northern Gaza respectively.

The death rates have decreased compared to April, which saw the death of 302 Palestinians. The Ministry said 3653 were born in April as well.

Some 1.9 Palestinians live in the Gaza Strip’s 365km2 coastal enclave, which is considered one of the most highly populated place in the world.
