A new poll has found that 58 percent of Americans support the idea that every United Nations member state should recognize a Palestinian state.
According to the Reuters/Ipsos poll published on Wednesday, only 33 percent of those polled did not agree that UN members recognize Palestinian statehood, while nine percent did not answer, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The results of the six-day poll, which closed on Monday, come as the Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas announced it had agreed to a proposal from Egyptian and Qatari mediators for a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Action over Gaza’s Starvation
Poll results also show that 65 percent of Americans agreed that the US should take action in Gaza to assist the population that is being starved by Israel’s restrictions on the entry of life-saving food and aid into the enclave. A total of 28 percent disagreed, among them 41 percent of Republicans, Reuters reported.

In addition, 59 percent of respondents believe that Israel’s “military response in Gaza has been excessive,” the report stated, with 33 percent having disagreed. A February 2024 poll found that 53 percent of respondents agreed that Israel’s response had been excessive, while 42 percent disagreed.
The poll was conducted online and gathered responses from 4,446 adults and had a margin of error of about two percentage points, the report noted.

Since reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has continued its bloody aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding thousands of Palestinians.

Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
