A speech by President Joe Biden at a church was interrupted by calls for a ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Pro-Palestinian activists interrupted US President Joe Biden’s campaign speech at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina on Monday.
As Biden spoke, a group of protesters rose up from one of the back pews to heckle him about not caring for Palestinian lives in Gaza.

“If you really care about the lives lost here, then you should honor the lives lost and call for a ceasefire in Palestine,” one of the protesters shouted while Biden was giving remarks at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, in the US South.
Emanuel AME is a historically black church, and the site of a mass shooting in which a pastor and eight parishioners were killed in a racially motivated attack in 2015, when Biden was vice president.
The protesters also chanted “Ceasefire now!” as security escorted them away.
When the noise subsided, Biden said he had been “quietly working with the Israeli government to get them to reduce and significantly get out of Gaza.”
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 23,210 Palestinians have been killed, and 59,167 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7.

Palestinian and international estimates say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The US has provided Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with full diplomatic support, as well as money and weapons, while publicly urging restraint.
In early December, Muslim leaders in US swing states initiated a campaign to withhold their votes for current US President, Joe Biden, in the 2024 election.
The ‘Abandon Biden Campaign’ comes after growing outrage over the refusal of the White House to call for a ceasefire in the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.
