The Al-Qassam and Al-Quds Brigades say they will transfer the body of an Israeli captive this evening under Red Cross supervision.

The Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, announced on Friday that they will hand over the body of an Israeli captive later this evening.

The statement said the handover will take place through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as part of the ongoing arrangements connected to the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Shortly afterward, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, confirmed in a separate statement that it will jointly carry out the transfer with the Al-Quds Brigades.

Al-Qassam said the body was found earlier in the day in Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip. The handover is scheduled for 9 PM Gaza time.

Israeli media reported preparations around the expected transfer.

Channel 12 said Israeli authorities had received what it described as an “initial indication” that the handover would take place this evening, while Channel 15 reported that the ICRC was preparing to receive the body.

However, the Israeli Broadcasting Authority noted that while logistical preparations appear to be underway, it remains uncertain whether the handover will be finalized tonight.

This development follows a similar transfer last Wednesday, when the Al-Qassam Brigades handed over the body of an Israeli captive after it was located in the Sheja’iyya neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

Since the ceasefire agreement began on October 10, Hamas has released 20 Israeli captives alive and handed over the bodies of 21 others, according to Israeli estimates. Israeli officials say that 28 bodies were originally believed to be held in Gaza, and that six have yet to be located and retrieved.

Israel has made the recovery of the remaining bodies a key condition for advancing to what it describes as the “second phase” of negotiations, which would address the release of additional Palestinian detainees held in Israeli prisons and further implementation of the ceasefire terms.

Hamas, however, has stated that the search for remaining bodies is complicated by the scale of destruction across the Gaza Strip. The movement has requested that mediators provide specialized equipment and technical crews to aid in recovering remains buried under rubble or in collapsed neighborhoods.

If carried out this evening, the transfer would mark the 22nd handover of a body since the ceasefire took effect.
