Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran and Washington are closer than ever to a memorandum of understanding, in remarks later shared by US President Donald Trump.

Key Developments

  • Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a proposed Iran-US memorandum is closer than ever to completion.
  • US President Donald Trump shared Araghchi’s statement on social media amid growing speculation of a breakthrough.
  • Iranian media reported that key disputes remain unresolved and that any draft still requires approval from Iranian authorities.

Araghchi Signals Progress in Talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that negotiations between Tehran and Washington have reached their most advanced stage yet, suggesting that a memorandum of understanding could be finalized soon.

In a post published on X, Araghchi stated that the proposed memorandum had “never been closer” to completion while urging media outlets to avoid speculation regarding its contents before the text is finalized.

“The memorandum of understanding has never been closer. Pending its finalization, the media should refrain from entering speculation about its content,” Araghchi wrote.

He added that Iran would continue to pursue a policy of transparency regarding the negotiations and pledged that the public would be informed of the contents of any finalized agreement.

In a notable development, US President Donald Trump later reposted Araghchi’s statement on his Truth Social platform without additional comment.

Draft Memorandum Remains under Review

Araghchi’s remarks came amid intensified diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving outstanding differences between the two sides.

According to reports published by Tasnim News Agency, Iran recently rejected amendments proposed by Washington to a reported 14-point framework under discussion between the two countries.

The report said the United States later informed mediators through Qatar that the proposed changes were no longer necessary after Tehran refused to accept them.

Tasnim stressed, however, that no final agreement has yet been approved and that any proposed memorandum must still undergo formal review by Iran’s relevant institutions.

Iranian officials have repeatedly emphasized that reports suggesting a finalized deal remain premature.

Framework Focuses on Nuclear, Economic Issues

Separate reports by Mehr News Agency and IRNA provided additional details regarding the reported framework under discussion.

According to the reports, the memorandum would establish a basis for a 60-day negotiation period focused on three principal issues: Iran’s nuclear program, the lifting of sanctions, and compensation mechanisms.

Iranian media said the framework excludes discussions on Tehran’s ballistic missile program and support for regional resistance movements.

The reports also indicated that the proposed arrangement includes provisions related to sanctions relief, the phased release of frozen Iranian assets, and measures aimed at facilitating maritime trade through the Strait of Hormuz.

IRNA reported that the memorandum itself would not constitute a final nuclear agreement but would instead create a structured framework for subsequent negotiations.

Breakthrough Still Dependent on Final Approval

Despite growing optimism surrounding the negotiations, Iranian officials continue to insist that no agreement exists until the memorandum receives formal approval from the country’s governing institutions.

The latest statements come amid increasing speculation regarding a possible diplomatic breakthrough after Trump said Thursday that a deal with Iran could be finalized in the coming days.

For now, both Iranian officials and state media maintain that negotiations remain ongoing and that the final outcome will depend on whether the proposed framework ultimately receives approval from Tehran’s leadership.
