China wants Muslim countries to remain united while speaking on the ongoing Israeli atrocities in Gaza.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi talked with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sunday in an effort to “help cool down the Palestine-Israel conflict”, the Chinese Global Times newspaper reported.

Amir-Abdollahian “expressed deep concerns over the escalating situation in the Middle East and over the attacks on the innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip, hoping to enhance talks and work with the Chinese side to achieve long regional peace through a political solution,” Global Times wrote.

Wang reportedly said that the right to self-defense cannot take place without fully complying “with international law and international humanitarian law, including protecting civilians and detainees, rather than (punishing) .. the innocent civilians”

According to Wang, “The current top priority is to de-escalate the situation to avoid a severe humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and the casualties of more innocent civilians.”

China’s top diplomat reportedly told Amir-Abdollahian that “China supports Islamic countries to strengthen unity and coordination on the Palestine issue and speak with one voice”, adding that “the international community should take action to oppose any party’s actions that harm civilians.”

“The only way to solve the Palestinian issue is to ensure the effective implementation of the two-state solution,” the minister concluded.

On Saturday, Wang also had a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken where he said that “major powers should adhere to objectivity and impartiality, maintain calm and restraint and take the lead in abiding by international law,” according to Global Times.
