China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for an urgent comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, full UN membership for Palestine, and an end to Israeli actions he said violate international law and threaten regional stability.
China has urged the international community to push with urgency for a “comprehensive ceasefire” in Gaza and to advance recognition of the State of Palestine, Xinhua News reported on Saturday.
Speaking on Friday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reportedly said it was vital to promote a ceasefire “with the greatest sense of urgency” in order to prevent further humanitarian catastrophe.
Wang made the remarks during talks in Beijing with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, calling on the international community to unite in confronting the crisis. He reportedly urged countries with influence over Israel, as well as the UN Security Council and humanitarian agencies, to shoulder their responsibilities.
He stressed that the principle of “Palestinians governing Palestine” must be realized, affirming that both Gaza and the West Bank are “inalienable territories” of Palestine. Any post-war governance, he added, should reflect Palestinian aspirations and safeguard their rights.
The minister also pressed for Palestine’s full UN membership and a genuine two-state solution, rejecting unilateral measures that undermine this path.
Wang voiced deep concern over the two-year war in Gaza and its devastating humanitarian toll.
He condemned Israel’s plans to seize Gaza City and its continued settlement expansion in the West Bank, actions he said “seriously violate international law” and endanger both the two-state solution and broader Middle East stability.
China Joins New York Declaration, Reaffirms Support for Palestine
While acknowledging Israel’s right to a state, Wang emphasized Palestine’s equal right to one, rejecting “double standards.” He stressed that Israeli and Arab lives are “equally precious” and warned that resorting to violence only deepens hatred.
China, he concluded, stands firm in supporting Palestine’s “just cause” and remains committed to working toward an immediate ceasefire and a lasting settlement grounded in UN resolutions and the two-state framework.
Ongoing Genocide
Since reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has continued its bloody aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding thousands of Palestinians.
Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 65,000 Palestinians, with more than 165,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.
In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.
Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
