A cautious calm settled over the Gaza Strip after the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced early Friday morning that the government had officially ratified US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war and secure the release of detainees.
Local media reports confirmed the halt of Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip following the Netanyahu government’s approval of the ceasefire agreement. CNN, citing Israeli officials also reported that the ceasefire enters into effect immediately upon Israel’s governmental ratification.
The Israeli announcement was immediately preceded by heavy shelling from Israeli occupation forces. Artillery stationed on the Netzarim axis targeted the northwest of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. Furthermore, Israeli warplanes conducted an airstrike north of Khan Yunis.
Medical sources in Gaza hospitals reported a significant toll over the prior 24 hours, with 27 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire, including 18 in Gaza City.

The Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas urged mediators and the US administration to hold Israel accountable for what it termed “brutal crimes” and to ensure an immediate halt to the targeting of civilians. This plea followed a massacre in the Al-Sabra neighborhood of central Gaza City on Thursday evening, which resulted in dozens of casualties, many still trapped under rubble.
Earlier that evening, the Palestinian Civil Defense and medical sources reported that four Palestinians were killed and 40 were missing after an Israeli raid struck the Ghabboun family home in Al-Sabra. This attack occurred just hours after President Trump announced that Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase of his ceasefire and prisoner exchange plan, and coincided with the Israeli government’s vote on the agreement.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (KAN) quoted a military source claiming the Al-Sabra attack was approved by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, asserting the targeted building was involved in “hostile activities against Israeli army forces.”

KAN outlined the key steps for implementing President Trump’s plan:
Immediate End to the War: The conflict ends upon the Israeli government’s ratification of the agreement, which occurred Friday morning.
Withdrawal: The army is to withdraw to pre-agreed lines, with the process to be completed within 24 hours of the government’s approval.
Non-Return: The Israeli army will not return to the withdrawn areas provided the Hamas movement fully implements the agreement.
Prisoner Exchange: Within 72 hours of the army’s withdrawal, all Israeli detainees (alive or deceased) are to be released. Israel will simultaneously release a corresponding number of Palestinian prisoners.
Suspension of Hostilities: All aerial and artillery bombardment and targeting operations will be suspended for the 72-hour period.
Ariel Surveillance and Aid: Aerial surveillance over the areas of withdrawal will be suspended, and the immediate entry of aid will commence, aligning with the minimum level established by the January 19th agreement.
The Israeli genocide, carried with direct with US support, has resulted in an estimated 67,194 dead and 169,890 wounded since October 7, 2023, the majority being children and women.
