Gaza-based journalist Motasem A Dalloul has refuted the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s claim that he was reporting from Poland rather than the besieged enclave.
“For the people who claim that I am in Poland and I’m tweeting and posting from Poland, I just want to tell you that if you can recognize such buildings in Poland, just tell me, please,” Dalloul said in a video with destroyed buildings and rubble in the background.

As he continues filming, tents and more destroyed structures come into view, with Dalloul continuing: “If you can recognize such tents and tent camps as you see here, just tell me if there is something like this in Poland. Please let me know.”

‘Fake Journalist’ Claim
The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Sunday tweeted that Dalloul was a “fake ‘journalist’ claiming to be in Gaza.” Citing the new X feature, it stated: “New @X feature reveals his actual location is Poland,” and that he was lying to “196,900 followers.”
“Reporting from Gaza is fake & not reliable. Makes you wonder how many more fake reports have you read?” the Foreign Ministry added.
“For those who claim that I am posting from Poland.”

According to a Mashable report, X removed the feature just hours after it was launched.
To date, Israel’s Foreign Ministry has not issued a retraction or correction of its tweet and X has not commented on the accuracy of the location tag attached to Dalloul’s account, the Al Mayadeen news agency reported.
‘Ugly Face of Israel’
Ramy Abdu of the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor group criticized the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s statement, saying: “This tweet exposes the ugly face of Israel and the lies it feeds on.”
He added that Dalloul is a well-known journalist in Gaza who has “lost his wife, two children, and most of his family to Israeli attacks,” and “is now targeted by blatant fabrications aimed at undermining the victims’ narrative.”

Dalloul has continued to post videos from inside Gaza documenting the genocide, which has resulted in the killing of his wife and three sons.
‘Rubble of My House’
On Monday, Dalloul posted a video message while standing in front of the tents that he now calls home.
“I’m staying in Gaza in the Zaytun neighbourhood,” he said, adding, “This is my house, which consists of three tents where the remaining of my children are living.

“You know that the Israeli occupation forces have killed my wife and three of my children. In the background, as you see, is the rubble of my house, which was destroyed by the Israeli occupation military,” he continued.
Daloul stressed that “I’ve been living in Gaza and I am living now in Gaza and I will continue living in Gaza until I die.”
He added: “I have never left Gaza except in 2012 when I did my master’s in international journalism in London.”
Wife, Three Sons Killed
According to Al Mayadeen, Dalloul has chosen to remain in northern Gaza throughout Israel’s two-year genocidal assault on the enclave. The journalist and his family have been forcibly displaced thirteen times, most recently while living in a tent in Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood.
In February 2024, as famine spread through northern Gaza, his wife Riham and young son Abu Bakr were killed in an Israeli strike on her family’s home, the report stated. Three months later, “while searching the ruins of their destroyed house in al-Zaytoun, Israeli tank fire killed his son Yehya, whose remains he later found crushed by advancing armor,” the report added.

Recently, Dalloul’s 21-year-old son, Ibrahim, was killed along with friends as they attempted to reach southern Gaza for humanitarian supplies, the report noted. It added that Dalloul learned of his killing only hours after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire.
Israel has killed more than 250 journalists since it launched its genocidal assault on Gaza in October 2023, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.
Staggering Death Toll
Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of close to 70,000 Palestinians, with more than 170,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.

In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.

The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
