Rights Group Seeks Ben-Gvir’s Arrest
The Hind Rajab Foundation for Human Rights has submitted a formal request to the US Department of Justice seeking the opening of an urgent criminal investigation into Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and calling for his arrest upon his arrival in New York next month.
The Brussels-based organization said its legal submission accuses Ben-Gvir of directly inciting genocide, torture, and ill-treatment since taking office in 2022, arguing that the case represents a test of the United States’ commitment to international law and the rule of law.
According to the foundation, Ben-Gvir’s policies toward Palestinian prisoners directly contributed to the deaths of dozens of detainees in Israeli prisons. It added that the legal file also contains allegations related to physical and material harm suffered by civilians holding US citizenship.

‘A Test of Accountability’
Jake Rom, the Hind Rajab Foundation’s representative in the United States, said Ben-Gvir’s planned visit presents an opportunity for American authorities to hold him accountable before the courts.
Rom questioned whether US authorities would “apply the law to everyone without exception” or instead grant Israeli officials immunity from prosecution.
He called on the Department of Justice to immediately open a formal criminal investigation and take the necessary legal measures against Ben-Gvir, stressing that political considerations should not obstruct the prosecution of individuals accused of international crimes.

Universal Jurisdiction Cases
The Hind Rajab Foundation is an independent human rights organization based in Brussels that was established in September 2024 during Israel’s war on Gaza. It is named after Hind Rajab, the Palestinian child killed alongside members of her family and paramedics in Gaza City’s Tel al-Hawa neighborhood.
The organization focuses on documenting evidence, testimonies, and identifying Israeli soldiers and commanders allegedly involved in violations, particularly dual nationals, in preparation for criminal cases before national courts under the principle of universal jurisdiction. It also submits documented case files to the International Criminal Court.
