The Israeli Minister of Education, Naftali Bennett, has called for the annexation of the West Bank by Israel, sparking a new debate in Israeli politics.

Speaking at the 5th anniversary of the death of MK Hanan Porat, Israeli Minister of Education, Bennett said, “Israel should annex the West Bank, impose its sovereignty over it, and make sacrifices in order to do so.”

In response to Bennett’s remarks, Shelly Yachimovich, an Israeli MK said, “Bennett’s suggestion to annex the West Bank is a nightmare that will destroy Zionism and it means the end of the Jewish state, and a Palestinian majority in Israel.”

Tzipi Livni, Israel’s former Foreign Minister and an Member of the Knesset said, “Now we know what Bennett’s dream is. His dream is a nightmare to the people of Israel. He wants to annex the West Bank in which 2.5 million Palestinians live. He evens calls for making a sacrifice to achieve this.”
