Deadly Israeli raids in the occupied West Bank coincided with escalating political pressure from far-right ministers rejecting any prospect of a Palestinian state.

A Palestinian child was killed and another wounded on Sunday morning after Israeli occupation forces carried out raids across several areas of the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Red Crescent told Al-Jazeera that the fatality and injury occurred during a raid on the Askar refugee camp, east of Nablus.

According to Palestinian sources, the victim has been identified as 16-year-old Hassan Mousa Sharkazi.

Local sources also reported that Israeli forces stormed the city of Nablus and the entrance to the Balata refugee camp.

In Hebron (Al-Khalil), Israeli forces imposed a strict closure on neighborhoods surrounding the Old City ahead of settler events marking what they call “Sarah’s Sabbath.”

The restrictions severely limited movement for roughly 4,000 Palestinians. Settlers set up tents in streets and inside the Ibrahimi Mosque compound, where thousands planned to remain overnight.

Elsewhere, Israeli forces arrested a young Palestinian during a raid on the Dhiab neighborhood in eastern Tulkarm, in the northern West Bank.

Pressure from far-right ministers intensified. Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must adopt a firm position declaring that a Palestinian state will never be established.

His statements reflect mounting pressure from the far-right bloc to prevent any political framework that could lead to Palestinian statehood.

Similarly, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called on Netanyahu to clearly state that no form of Palestinian state will be permitted, adding that his party, Jewish Power, would withdraw from any government that supports such a political outcome.

Over the two years since Israel began its assault on the Gaza Strip on October 8, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,072 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and injured approximately 10,000.

More than 20,000 Palestinians have also been detained, including 1,600 children.

  1. the right-wing bloc… who are War Criminals and guilty of Crimes Against Humanity, as pending and inescapable Trials will DEMONSTRATE … should be informed that the zionist entity no longer has any say in the Creation of the PALESTINIAN STATE!!… The PALESTINIAN STATE will be Enforced by the UN Security Council, and Step 1. will be the passage this coming day in the UNSC of the resolution Enforcing The 20-point Plan which now in the main body of the Text emphasizes the coming PALESTINIAN STATE in a Resolution that Will be LEGAL and BINDING…AND since THIS Resolution is submitted and drawn up by the United States ( something very new ) it will be BINDING on the USA itself!

  2. Ben-Gvir blackmails Likud – but Netanyahu already said, years ago, there will never be a Palestinian state. Idiots. Palestine is a state and doesn’t have to ask anyone, please.
