Israeli strike kills Dr. Jamal Abu Aoun, head of anesthesia at Gaza’s Yafa Hospital, amid ongoing ceasefire violations.

Key Developments

  • An Israeli airstrike killed a Palestinian and injured several others in Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza.
  • Medical sources identified the victim as Dr. Jamal Abu Aoun, head of anesthesia at Yafa Hospital.
  • Gaza’s death toll since October 2023 has risen to 72,938, according to Palestinian medical authorities.

A Palestinian was killed and several others injured on Saturday after an Israeli airstrike targeted Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Israeli warplanes struck the city, killing one Palestinian and wounding several others.

Local reports cited by Quds News Network said the attack targeted a police checkpoint north of Deir Al-Balah. Medical sources later identified the victim as Dr. Jamal Abu Aoun, head of the anesthesia department at Yafa Hospital in the city.

The strike came amid continued Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement that entered into force in October 2025. Palestinian sources reported additional Israeli artillery attacks targeting several areas across the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

The latest attack follows Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement earlier this week that he had ordered the military to expand areas under Israeli control in Gaza to 70 percent of the besieged territory, a move that has drawn criticism from the United Nations and world governments.

Gaza Death Toll

In related news, Palestinian medical authorities announced Saturday that the death toll from Israel’s genocide in Gaza has reached 72,938 Palestinians, with 172,919 others wounded since October 2023.

According to health officials, hospitals across Gaza received seven bodies during the previous 24 hours, including six newly killed Palestinians and one person who succumbed to earlier injuries. Another 25 wounded Palestinians were admitted for treatment.

Authorities said that since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, at least 929 Palestinians have been killed and 2,811 injured in Israeli attacks and violations.

Officials also reported the recovery of 781 bodies from different areas of the Strip during that period.

Medical sources warned that an unknown number of victims remain trapped beneath rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescue teams due to ongoing military activity and dangerous conditions on the ground.
