The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has issued a statement denouncing the American government’s silence over Israel’s shooting of a Palestinian American, Iyad Hamed, near Ramallah last Friday.

The statement read, “The soldiers left him bleeding for two hours and prevented ambulances and medics from giving him the needed aid.”

MOFA noted that the Israeli narrative changed, stating, “At first, the Israeli soldiers claimed he was shot at the military tower erected at the entrance of Silwad village. Yet, this narrative changed and they said he posed no threat.”

The Ministry added that Hamed’s killing is not the first, as “Five similar cases took place at the same place before.”

MOFA called on all diplomatic missions to the State of Palestine to take action and condemn these Israeli actions against Palestinian citizens.

“The Ministry finds it strange that despite Hamed possessing an American passport, the American government did not issue any statement following the shooting,” MOFA stated, adding, “We call on the American government to question the Israeli government over the shooting of Hamed.”

The Ministry called for an international investigation into the killing of Hamed, noting the unreliability of the Israeli government’s investigations, citing the closing of all investigations in the killing of Palestinians during the 2014 offensive.

It also cited the closing of the investigation into the killing of Palestinian Abdelfattah Alshreef in Hebron, who was shot while lying on the ground without posing a threat to the Israeli soldiers.
