Palestinian women detainees described escalating abuse after Itamar Ben-Gvir entered their prison section with family members, filmed them and issued threats.

Key Developments

  • Palestinian women detainees said Israeli repression intensified after National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered their section accompanied by family members, filmed the raid and threatened them.
  • Women reported being handcuffed behind their backs, blindfolded, forced to keep their heads bowed and lie on the ground while subjected to shouting, insults and obscene language.
  • The Palestinian Prisoners Club said filming the detainees and subsequent crackdowns had turned their humiliation into a deliberate tool of political propaganda and control.

Ben-Gvir Enters Women’s Section with Family

Palestinian women held in Israeli prisons have provided new testimony about abuse and punitive measures imposed after far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir entered their prison section accompanied by members of his family.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, Ben-Gvir entered two rooms in the women’s section and personally documented the visit. He subsequently published footage showing himself directing threats at the Palestinian detainees.

The organization said the incident went beyond an ordinary prison raid, arguing that Ben-Gvir had transformed Palestinian women detainees and the prison itself into instruments of “political posturing and propaganda.”

The presence of an Israeli minister accompanied by family members inside the women’s section, combined with his decision to film and publicly distribute the encounter, represented an unprecedented intrusion into the detainees’ privacy, the group said.

According to the Prisoners Club, the episode demonstrated a “direct overlap between the political authority and the tools of repression inside the detention centers.”

It said the detainees were effectively turned from people with rights into objects in a political spectacle in which “the humiliation itself” became a deliberate public act.

‘Handcuffed behind Our Backs and Blindfolded’

The Palestinian women said the situation deteriorated further following Ben-Gvir’s visit.

For three days, they were deprived of their personal belongings and prevented from showering or leaving their cells for recreation, according to their testimonies.

They described repeated raids in which Israeli prison forces restrained and blindfolded them before forcibly removing them from their rooms.

“During the recent crackdowns, we are handcuffed behind our backs and blindfolded, then forcibly taken out with our heads bowed, and forced to lie on the ground,” the detainees said. “This is accompanied by shouting, insults, and obscene language.”

The women described living under the constant expectation of another sudden raid.

“We live in a state of constant anxiety and alertness, fearing any sudden raid on the rooms,” they said. “In every crackdown, the same forms of abuse are repeated.”

They also reported repeated periods of isolation and detention under what they described as “extremely harsh and degrading conditions.”

Abuse Deliberately Filmed

The detainees said Israeli forces were deliberately filming the crackdowns.

The Palestinian Prisoners Club argued that the recording of such operations could not be regarded as an incidental feature of the raids.

Instead, it said, filming had itself become an additional mechanism of humiliation and control, transforming moments of violence and vulnerability into material that could be retained and used outside the prison.

The organization said Ben-Gvir’s visit occurred within an existing pattern of repeated raids, threats, isolation and collective punishment against Palestinian women detainees.

His personal participation and publication of footage, it argued, added a political dimension to those practices by publicly presenting the treatment of Palestinian detainees as part of his political agenda.

The Prisoners Club warned that the repeated raids have deprived Palestinian women detainees of any meaningful sense of privacy or security, leaving them in a persistent state of fear over when the next crackdown will occur.
