The Real Madrid F.C. fan club in Palestine in cooperation with Lady of the Earth Foundation has selected Ronaldo as the Character of the Year, IFP reported.

The fan club’s chief says Ronaldo’s charitable works, particularly his support for children affected by war, deserve to be appreciated by Palestine and Real Madrid fans.

The ceremony during which Ronaldo will be honored is due to be held on December 16 in Palestine with more than 1,200 figures in attendance; however, Ronaldo will not be able to attend the event because of his appearance in FIFA Club World Cup.

In March this year, Ronaldo made headlines when he met with Ahmad Dawabsha, 5, the sole survivor of an arson attack on his Palestinian home by an Israeli settler which killed his parents and two siblings.

Ahmad was welcomed by at the club’s headquarters in Madrid, accompanied by his grandfather, where he met a number of players including his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo.
