Senior Israeli Officers Resign over Failure of War Outcomes

A number of senior Israeli officers have resigned recently over the failure to evaluate the outcomes of last year’s offensive against the people of Gaza, local media reported on Friday.

Yesh Atid Knesset member Haim Yellin, a former head of the settlement Eshkol Regional Council, has filed an urgent application for the Parliamentary Oversight Committee to look into this issue. He pointed out that the prime minister and minister of defence have been blocking a parliamentary meeting to discuss the reports about the 2014 war.

The biggest enemy for democracy is intimidation,” said Yellin, “and scared Netanyahu prefers this enemy even if the price is the lives of the people.” He claimed that reports about the performance of the Israeli army and the domestic front are still in the two ministers’ desks, and noted that if this situation remains unchanged, the results will never be announced before the next military confrontation.

The MK said that Israel was like a battlefield during the war because of the collective ego of the defence and interior ministers. He suggested that both want to hide their failure.
