“Every Israeli house built in the West Bank is a declaration of sovereignty, and every neighborhood is a nail to strengthen our plan,” he added.

Smotrich’s spokesman issued a statement, titled “Burying the Idea of a Palestinian State,” confirming that the plan includes the construction of 3,401 new homes for Israeli settlers between the existing settlement and Jerusalem.
Israel had previously frozen similar building plans after 2012 due to objections from the United States, European allies, and other global powers who warned the project would severely undermine the viability of a future peace agreement with the Palestinians.
Smotrich, however, affirmed that his administration’s actions in the West Bank are fully supported by the U.S., stating, “Everything we are doing in the West Bank has been done in full coordination with Netanyahu and our friends in the United States.”

The announcement follows a series of recent Israeli actions solidifying its control over the West Bank. On July 23, the Israeli Knesset passed a bill to impose Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank and the Jordan Valley. The legislation, which passed with a majority of 71-13, claims that the West Bank and Jordan Valley “form an integral part of the historical homeland of the Jewish people” and calls for “strategic steps” to establish this “historical right” and achieve Israeli “national security.”
This move came shortly after the Israeli cabinet approved the establishment of 22 new settlements in the West Bank on May 29, according to Israeli media. These settlements include a return to Homesh and Sanur and the establishment of four new settlements along the border with Jordan.
