Gaza’s Ministry of Health has warned of the “deadly” situation in Gaza due to the dire conditions under which civilians are forced to survive.

In his daily press briefing on Wednesday, spokesperson Ashraf Al-Qudra reportedly said the situation in shelters is “deadly due to the spread of epidemics and infectious diseases.”

Malnutrition, the lack of clean drinking water and personal hygiene are also contributing factors, Al Qudra said.

He said health teams have detected 327,000 cases of infectious diseases that arrived at health centers from shelters. The actual number is likely much higher since many people cannot reach health centers, he reportedly said.

Al-Qudra stressed that children’s vaccinations have now completely run out which will have catastrophic health repercussions and the spread of diseases, especially among the displaced in overcrowded shelters.

He called on international institutions to quickly intervene to provide the necessary vaccinations and ensure access in all areas of the Gaza Strip to prevent the unfolding health disaster.

According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, 18,787 Palestinians have been killed and more than 50,897 wounded in Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza starting on October 7. Palestinian and international estimates say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
