Ten Israeli soldiers were injured when a military jeep overturned near Gaza City, as Israeli forces continue their large-scale invasion of the Strip.

The Israeli army announced on Sunday that two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip toward Ashdod. According to the military, one rocket was intercepted while the other landed in an open area. 

The rocket fire was preceded by sirens sounding between Ashdod and Ashkelon, warning of incoming shells.

In a separate incident, the Israeli army confirmed that 10 soldiers were injured when a military vehicle overturned on the outskirts of Gaza City. 

The Hebrew website Walla reported that a Hummer jeep overturned at around 5:15 a.m. local time in the northern Gaza Strip. Two of the injured soldiers were airlifted to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, while the remaining eight were evacuated by ambulance. Israel’s Channel 7 noted that the soldiers belonged to the Kfir Brigade.

The latest incident follows Saturday’s announcement by Israeli Army Radio that a soldier from the 401st Brigade was wounded by sniper fire in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, north of Gaza City. Israeli sources also reported that two military helicopters carried out evacuations from Gaza to hospitals in Tel Aviv.

In recent days, the Israeli military has deployed thousands of infantry, armored, and engineering troops into Gaza City in an effort to accelerate the pace of its invasion and reoccupation of the Strip.

Since reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has continued its bloody aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding thousands of Palestinians.

Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 65,000 Palestinians, with more than 165,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.

In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.

Despite widespread international condemnation, little has been done to hold Israel accountable. The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
