US President Donald Trump has said that Israel’s once “strongest” lobby no longer has the influence it had in Congress and that the ongoing military operation in Gaza is “hurting” its public image.
“If you go back 20 years … I will tell you, Israel had the strongest lobby in Congress of anything or body, or of any company or corporation or state that I’ve ever seen,” Trump stated in an interview with the Daily Caller on Friday, which was published on Monday. “Israel was the strongest. Today, it doesn’t have that strong a lobby. It’s amazing.”
Trump’s latest remarks reveal a new dilemma for Israel: despite its military advantage in Gaza, it is failing to win global public opinion.

He stressed that there was a time when “you couldn’t speak badly” about Israel “if you wanted to be a politician.” However, he added, “today, you have AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) plus three, and you have all these lunatics, and they’ve really, they’ve changed it,” referring to lawmakers who have been critical of US military support for Israel.
Declining Support
Reiterating that Israel “was the strongest lobby I’ve ever seen,” Trump pointed out that they had “total control over Congress, and now they don’t, you know, I’m a little surprised to see that.”
Trump was responding to a question on a March Pew Research Center poll that found that 53 percent of US adults had an unfavorable view of Israel, up from 42 percent in 2022. Among Republicans under 50, half viewed Israel unfavorably, up from 35 percent in 2022. The interviewer noted that there was a growing group within the MAGA, America First coalition, “especially younger Republicans” who are sceptical of US support for Israel.

Stating that he had “good support” from Israel, Trump claimed “nobody has done more for Israel than I have,” citing the recent attacks on Iran.
“We, that plan, wiped them out like nobody ever saw before,” he claimed.
Gaza Onslaught ‘Hurting Israel’
On the ongoing genocidal assault on Gaza, Trump suggested “they’re gonna have to get that war over with,” adding “it is hurting Israel.”

“They may be winning the war, but they’re not winning the world of public relations, you know, and it is hurting them,” he stated.
Asked what accolades he would want once he stepped down from office, such as the Nobel Peace Prize, Trump said: “I don’t want to say any of that stuff, because it sounds so bad. But look, I stopped seven wars and wiped out a nuclear war that would have happened with Iran, that was going to happen.”

Since reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has continued its bloody aerial bombardment across the Gaza Strip, killing and wounding thousands of Palestinians.
Starting on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military, with American support, launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza. This campaign has so far resulted in the deaths of more than 63,500 Palestinians, with more than 160,000 wounded. The vast majority of the population has been displaced, and the destruction of infrastructure is unprecedented since World War II. Thousands of people are still missing.

In addition to the military assault, the Israeli blockade has caused a man-made famine, leading to the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians—mostly children—with hundreds of thousands more at risk.

The nation is currently under investigation for genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, are officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
