Israel’s latest attacks killed 16 Palestinians, as an Israeli newspaper reported that an average of one Palestinian child has been killed every day since ‘ceasefire’.

Key Developments

  • Gaza’s Health Ministry said 19 bodies arrived at hospitals over the past 48 hours.
  • The ministry said 1,144 Palestinians have been killed since Israel began violating the October 10 ceasefire.
  • Haaretz reported that Israel has killed 274 Palestinian children since the ceasefire.

Israel continued its attacks across the Gaza Strip over the past 48 hours, killing 16 Palestinians, as new figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry coincided with an Israeli media report documenting the continued killing of Palestinian children during the ceasefire period.

The Health Ministry said on Saturday that hospitals across Gaza had received the bodies of 19 Palestinians during the previous 48 hours.

According to the ministry, 16 of those were killed in recent Israeli attacks, one person died from previously sustained wounds, and two bodies were recovered from beneath the rubble.

The ministry added that many victims remain trapped under collapsed buildings or lying in streets that ambulance and civil defense crews are unable to reach because of ongoing Israeli attacks.

Death Toll Continues to Rise

The latest figures bring the number of Palestinians killed since Israel began violating the October 10 ceasefire to 1,144.

Another 3,703 Palestinians have been wounded during the same period, while rescue teams have recovered 802 bodies from beneath destroyed buildings.

Since the start of Israel’s genocide in Gaza in October 2023, the Health Ministry said at least 73,269 Palestinians have been killed and 173,811 wounded.

The ministry stressed that the toll remains incomplete because many victims remain buried beneath rubble or in areas inaccessible to rescue teams.

‘Matter of Routine’

The updated casualty figures came one day after the Israeli newspaper Haaretz published an analysis concluding that Israel continues killing Palestinian children in Gaza “as a matter of routine.”

According to the newspaper, 274 Palestinian children have been killed since the October 10 ceasefire took effect—an average of one child every day.

Haaretz reported that more than 21,000 Palestinian children have been killed since Israel launched its genocide on Gaza in October 2023.

The newspaper said most children were killed in Israeli airstrikes, while others died from sniper fire, collapsing buildings, or shrapnel.

It added that some children later died because Gaza’s devastated healthcare system was unable to provide treatment for their injuries.

Others succumbed to hunger or disease amid the humanitarian catastrophe, although those deaths were not included in the reported child fatality figures.

Humanitarian Conditions

Haaretz also described worsening living conditions across Gaza, noting that approximately 1.7 million Palestinians remain displaced in tents without electricity, clean water, or adequate sanitation.

The newspaper said rats and mosquitoes have spread widely throughout displacement camps, while infectious diseases and skin infections continue to increase during the summer heat.

Nearly all homes destroyed during Israel’s military campaign remain unrebuilt, leaving hundreds of thousands of families without permanent shelter.

Continuing Genocide

Israel has continued its military operations across Gaza despite the ceasefire announced in October last year.

Israeli occupation forces continue to carry out airstrikes, demolish residential buildings, and target civilians throughout the enclave.

Children, women, medical personnel, journalists, police officers, and humanitarian workers have remained among those killed during the continuing attacks.

Residential neighborhoods and civilian infrastructure have also continued to sustain widespread destruction.
