Israeli Army Updates Plans for Lebanon
The Israeli military is preparing for another round of fighting in Lebanon if hostilities with Iran resume, the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth reported Friday.
Israeli occupation forces are continuing operations along the Lebanese border, preparing military positions and updating operational plans ahead of winter, the newspaper said.
According to the report, Israel’s security establishment is waiting to see whether Washington resumes military operations against Iran. The Israeli military has seen no unusual signs of increased US preparations in the region apart from reinforcements in southern Israel and naval movements in the Arabian Sea, the newspaper said.

Netanyahu and US Officials Differ on War Goals
Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to overthrow the Iranian government, while some US officials favor a short, intensive offensive aimed at weakening Tehran and forcing it to negotiate from a weaker position.
The newspaper suggested that a deal reached on those terms could give US President Donald Trump a political boost after his party’s losses in Tuesday’s congressional midterm elections.
Disagreements also emerged within Israel before its October 27 parliamentary elections. According to the newspaper, military Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir clashed with Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz over their push for military action against Iran.
Some Israeli officials believe Netanyahu is seeking to provoke another war with Iran to stay in power after his bloc won 53 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, falling short of a parliamentary majority, the newspaper reported.

Lebanon Withdrawal Deal Faces Renewed War Risk
Lebanon and Israel signed a US-mediated framework agreement on June 26 that provides for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory in exchange for the Lebanese army deploying and assuming security responsibilities.
The US and Israel launched their offensive against Iran on February 28. A ceasefire followed in April, but fighting between Washington and Tehran resumed in July as diplomacy stalled.
Washington is demanding concessions on Iran’s nuclear program before negotiations resume. Tehran is calling for the removal of US sanctions, the release of frozen assets and permission to export oil.
