Results of a new poll show a divide within the Democratic Party as to how President Joe Biden is handling Israel’s war on Gaza.

The poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 50% of Democrats approve of his handling of the crisis and 46% of Democrats disapprove.

Democrats who disapprove are more likely than those who approve to feel Israel has a great deal of responsibility for the war and to feel the US is being too supportive of Israel, the poll found.

Biden’s support on the issue among Democrats is down slightly from August. An AP-NORC poll conducted then found that 57% of Democrats approved of his handling of the war and 40% disapproved.

The latest results also show that 61% of the American public disapproves of Biden’s overall job performance and 63% disapprove of how he is handling the crisis in Gaza.

Biden has made clear his support for Israel and adamantly rejected calls for a ceasefire in the besieged enclave, reportedly saying “We’re not going to stop until we get them (the hostages) out.”

Israel has, thus far, killed over 11,078 – including 4,506 children and 3,027 women – and wounded 27,409. Palestinian Ministry of Health reports and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.

Despite a massive Israeli military buildup around the Gaza borders and sporadic infiltrations on the outskirts of the besieged Strip, Palestinian Resistance continues to repel Israeli attacks.
