Israeli forces destroyed two military towers belonging to the military wing of Hamas, Al-Qassam Brigades, following what Israeli military sources said the targeting of Israeli forces near the border.

According to these sources, Israeli soldiers responded by firing shells at the neighborhood, terrifying school children who were attending their classes in two nearby schools.

Social media activists circulated photos of school children running for their lives after the Ministry of Education ordered two schools to be evacuated for safety reasons.

The shelling of Shujayea this morning brought tragic memories to the people of the neighborhood where hundreds of people were killed or wounded in the last Israeli war in 2014.

Over 2,200 Palestinians were killed in that war, which left much of Gaza in ruins.
