In an exclusive FloodGate interview, Amazon Labor Union president Chris Smalls recounts his arrest on the Handala boat and explains why Palestine is a working-class struggle.

Chris Smalls, president of the Amazon Labor Union and a prominent US labor organizer, has spoken out about his experience aboard the Handala boat, where he was detained and assaulted by Israeli forces earlier this summer.

Smalls was among dozens of international activists aboard the Handala aid ship, which attempted to break the siege on Gaza.

He was arrested by Israeli forces, held in detention, and reported being physically attacked, saying he was singled out because he was the only Black passenger on board.

In an exclusive interview with Pan-African activist Bouna Mbaye for Palestine Chronicle’s FloodGate Podcast, Smalls explained why he joined the effort, connecting labor struggles in the United States to the Palestinian struggle for freedom.

He also exposed systemic Israeli racism and explained why Palestine is a working-class struggle.
