Key Developments
- Iran restores full control over Strait of Hormuz, limiting maritime access.
- Tehran accuses the US of “piracy” and violating commitments.
- Trump claims progress with Iran but threatens return to war.
Iran Reasserts Control over Hormuz
Iran announced the re-tightening of control over the Strait of Hormuz, returning the situation to what it described as its previous operational state.
According to the spokesman for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the strategic waterway remains under the direct management of the Iranian Armed Forces and subject to strict oversight.
The spokesman said Tehran had initially allowed limited passage of commercial vessels as a gesture of “good faith” during negotiations, but reversed that decision after accusing the United States of continuing acts of “piracy” under the guise of a blockade.
Iran maintains its right to defend its sovereignty and interests in the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by officials.
Extending the ceasefire is seen by many as insufficient for lasting peace, it is viewed as only a temporary truce.

He stressed that maritime access will remain restricted until Washington guarantees the free movement of vessels to and from Iran.
Iranian officials made clear that any easing of restrictions in the Strait depends on changes in US actions.
The Khatam al-Anbiya spokesman stated that stabilizing navigation in Hormuz is conditional on ending American obstruction of Iranian shipping.
He added that Iran will maintain strict control over the waterway as long as these conditions persist.
Trump Signals Progress, Issues Threats
US President Donald Trump said he had received “good news” regarding Iran, suggesting that negotiations may be moving forward.
“We had some pretty good news (…), but it seems to be going very well in the Middle East with Iran,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, according to Reuters news agency.
At the same time, he warned that the ceasefire may not be extended beyond next week if no agreement is reached, adding that the US blockade on Iranian ports will remain in place.
Trump further threatened a return to military escalation, stating: “Maybe I won’t extend it. So, you have a blockade, and unfortunately we’ll have to start dropping bombs again,” he said.
Qalibaf Rejects US Narrative
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf dismissed Trump’s statements, describing them as false and disconnected from reality.
“They did not win the war with these lies, and they will certainly not get anywhere in negotiations either,” he said.
MB Ghalibaf (@mb_ghalibaf) April 17, 2026
Qalibaf emphasized that control over the Strait of Hormuz is determined “on the ground, not on social media,” adding that transit will occur only under Iranian conditions and authorization.
He also warned that as long as the blockade continues, the Strait will not remain fully open.
The developments come within the framework of a temporary ceasefire brokered on April 8 following weeks of war that began on February 28.
Despite ongoing indirect contacts and mediation efforts, no agreement has been reached, and both sides continue to signal readiness for escalation.

Get that piece of sh!t out of office.
YOU ALL fell for it. Now do you see that he was never worth your vote? Good.
Let’s never allow this to happen again.
Concerning piracy and the US government – as anyone who’s been watching US politics knows, part-time President and full-time Secretary of Silly Tweets has been working hard to make the US govt his private possession. As such, and since it has hardly been contested by the US Congress, it follows that the US Navy’s his private navy, which removes completely and without prejudice, any claim that the US Navy’s acting constitutionally. Ergo, any action by the US Navy in relation to Iranian ships and ports, is piracy, and piracy is subject to universal jurisdiction, meaning that anyone accused of piracy, can be tried for piracy anywhere, by anyone.
