Israeli artillery fire, helicopter gunfire, and tank shelling struck Rafah and Bureij camp, killing two Palestinians in renewed violations of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Israeli forces carried out new attacks across the Gaza Strip early Wednesday, killing two Palestinians and shelling multiple areas, despite a ceasefire agreement in place since October 10.

According to reports, Israeli artillery targeted western areas of Rafah, while helicopter gunfire struck northern neighborhoods of the city in the early morning hours.

Israeli shelling was also reported in the northern areas of the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

No immediate casualties were reported from the strikes on Rafah and Bureij. However, late Tuesday, the Israeli army confirmed that two Palestinians were killed during what it described as an exchange of fire in Rafah.

In a military statement, Israel said its surveillance systems detected a group of Palestinians west of Rafah near Israeli troop positions. Tanks were reportedly dispatched to the area and opened fire, followed by airstrikes after return fire was directed at one of the armored vehicles.

The Israeli daily Israel Hayom reported that two Israeli soldiers sustained light injuries during the clashes.

The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas condemned the attacks as a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement and called on mediators and guarantor countries to intervene.

The movement accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of overseeing continued violations under what it described as fabricated pretexts.

Hamas urged pressure on Israel to halt military operations, adhere to the ceasefire terms, reopen the Rafah crossing in both directions, allow the entry of humanitarian and shelter supplies, and immediately move to the second phase of the agreement.

Since the ceasefire came into effect, Israeli forces have killed more than 400 Palestinians in repeated violations, according to reports. Israel has also continued to disregard a UN Security Council resolution adopted in November 2025 calling for a permanent ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

Since October 2023, Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have killed more than 71,000 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, and wounded over 171,000 others, leaving much of the enclave in ruins.
