Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz declared on Tuesday that “Gaza is burning” amid the escalating Israeli blitz of the city, while families of Israeli prisoners accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of sacrificing their loved ones.
In a post on the X platform, Katz claimed that the army is “strik(ing) with an iron fist at the terrorist infrastructure” and is working to “create conditions for the release of the hostages and the defeat of Hamas”.
At dawn on Tuesday, the Israeli army intensified its air and ground assault of Gaza City, which corresponded with the demolition of a residential building in the north of the City. Warnings to all residents of the Gaza Port and Rimal neighborhoods, telling the people to evacuate and to move to the south of the Strip, were issued by the army.

Mahmoud Basal, a spokesman for the Civil Defence of Gaza, said that “Gaza City is being subjected to heavy shelling, and the number of fatalities and injuries is increasing.”
The Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom reported that the sound of massive explosions in Gaza could be heard in Tel Aviv, and the intensity of the bombing shattered windows in the Netivot settlement in the south of the country.
‘Sacrifice of Prisoners’
While Katz boasted about Israel’s bombing in Gaza, the Israeli Prisoners’ Families Committee accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of choosing to ‘sacrifice the kidnapped’ by going ahead with the military operation.
In a statement, the Committee’s representative said, “The 710th night could be the last in the lives of our loved ones who are barely alive.” She added that the lives of a large number of living prisoners inside Gaza City are being threatened by the bombing.

Further, she stated that Netanyahu, Katz, and other officials have “ignored the families’ requests for a meeting”.
She added that Netanyahu would be held “personally responsible’ for the fate of their loved ones, and asserted that “the people of Israel will not forgive the sacrifices of the kidnapped soldiers.”
For his part, Avigdor Lieberman, party leader of Yisrael Beiteinu, criticized the prime minister, saying that he admitted that he was willing to sacrifice prisoners, Israel’s strategic relations and the economy purely for his own survival.
