Senior Iranian officials signaled that retaliation is imminent following Israel’s strike on Beirut’s southern suburb.
Key Developments
- Ali Akbar Velayati declared that “zero hour has arrived” and said launch platforms were moving into firing positions following the Israeli strike on Beirut.
- Iranian officials reiterated that Lebanon remains a red line for Tehran and warned that attacks on the country could jeopardize ongoing diplomatic efforts.
- Tehran renewed threats to leverage the strategic waterways of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, describing them as tools capable of choking Israel’s economic lifelines.
A series of forceful statements from senior Iranian officials on Sunday raised expectations of a response to Israel’s latest strike on Beirut’s southern suburb, with advisers to Iran’s leadership warning that patience had run out and that military preparations were underway.
The warnings followed an Israeli airstrike earlier in the day on a residential building in Beirut’s southern suburb, which killed three people and wounded several others.
The attack came despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to finalize a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington, a process that Iran has repeatedly linked to an end to hostilities in Lebanon.
‘Zero Hour Has Arrived’
Ali Akbar Velayati, senior adviser to Iran’s Leader on international affairs, issued one of the strongest statements yet from Tehran since the Beirut attack.
“The miscalculation committed in Beirut has exhausted patience and the order has been given,” Velayati wrote in a post on X.
He added that Iran and its allies were fully prepared to respond.
“Zero hour has arrived, and the launch platforms are taking firing positions,” he said.
Velayati also emphasized what he described as the collective defense doctrine of the Axis of Resistance, stressing that Hezbollah remains an integral part of that alliance.

Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab
In one of the most significant warnings contained in his statement, Velayati suggested that continued escalation in Lebanon could have consequences far beyond the battlefield.
“If the fire of recklessness in Lebanon is not extinguished, the two powerful arms of geography—Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab—will choke your economic arteries until strategic suffocation is achieved,” he warned.
The reference to the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab waterway is likely to draw international attention given their importance to global energy markets and maritime trade.
‘Lebanon Is Our Soul’
Similar warnings were issued by Mohammad Baqer Zolghadr, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
In a statement posted through the council’s official account, Zolghadr said a response was inevitable.
“The response of the fighters of Islam is coming,” he wrote, describing the anticipated retaliation as “a promise fulfilled.”
He also stressed the interconnected nature of the resistance fronts across the region.
“The unity of the fronts has created a security chain for the defense of the region,” he said.
Turning specifically to Lebanon, Zolghadr added: “Lebanon is our soul, and the red lines of the Islamic Republic will not be allowed to be violated.”

Ghalibaf: Resistance Cannot Be Isolated
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also reacted to the Beirut attack, arguing that Israel would fail in any effort to isolate one component of the resistance movement.
“They will never be able to isolate any part of the pillars of the resistance,” Ghalibaf said.
He praised what he described as the sacrifices of Lebanese resistance fighters and Iran’s diplomatic efforts, saying they would guarantee Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Ghalibaf further argued that the combination of resistance and diplomacy would eventually bring an end to Israel’s “war madness.”
“The days are between us,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Ghalibaf had warned Washington that the Beirut strike cast doubt on America’s ability to fulfill commitments made during ongoing negotiations.

‘No Courtesy’ in Defending Lebanon
Mohammad Mokhber, senior adviser to Iran’s leadership, also accused Washington and Israel of playing coordinated roles.
“The division of labor between understanding and aggression by the United States and the Zionist entity is repetitive and unacceptable,” Mokhber said.
He dismissed both diplomatic reassurances and military pressure.
“Neither the American diplomatic smile is trustworthy, nor can Zionist brutality be tolerated,” he said.
“We will show no courtesy to anyone in defending Lebanon, and we will teach the transgressors a lesson they will regret.”

Qaani Signals Support for Hezbollah
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, commander of Iran’s Quds Force, used the occasion to reaffirm support for Hezbollah.
According to remarks carried by the Iranian Fars News Agency, Qaani said Lebanon’s independence was inseparable from Hezbollah’s sacrifices.
“The peoples of the world know Lebanon’s independence through the greatness of Hezbollah’s sacrifices,” he said.
He also predicted that Hezbollah would ultimately prevail.
“The victory of Hezbollah’s heroic resistance over the Zionists is near,” Qaani added.
