A very large crowd of pro-Palestinian demonstrators took to the streets of central London to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

Videos of the event have gone viral on social media.

The march was reportedly organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

According to its Facebook page, the official route of the demonstration began at Victoria Embankment and ended at Parliament Square.

Over 100,000 protesters have gathered in the capital and more across the country, denouncing Israel’s attack on Gaza and urging an immediate ceasefire, the BBC reports.

According to the outlet, over 1,000 Metropolitan Police officers have been deployed across the capital amid the mass demonstrations.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called for the release of prisoners and hostages taken by Hamas during the October 7 attack on Israel and for humanitarian aid to be brought into Gaza.

He added, however, that “for all of that to happen, there has to be a safer environment, which of course necessitates specific pauses as distinct from a ceasefire.”

Like Washington, Paris and Berlin, London has supported the Israeli position on Gaza, providing aid, military and intelligence support to Israel as it has unleashed one of its most devastating wars on the besieged Gaza Strip on record.

Israel has, thus far, killed 7,703 Palestinians in Gaza, including 3,195 children, and wounded over 19,743 more.

Palestinian Ministry of Health reports and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.

On Friday night, Israel intensified airstrikes and expanded its ground operations in Gaza, while knocking out all communications for Palestinians in the besieged Strip.

Gaza has been under a tight Israeli military siege since 2007, following a democratic election in occupied Palestine, the results of which were rejected by Tel Aviv and Washington.
