Hamas has already reportedly released 20 living Israeli captives and handed over the remains of 27 out of 28, most of them Israelis, since the ceasefire took effect on October 10.
The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Resistance group, handed over the body of an Israeli captive on Tuesday under a Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The Israeli army confirmed that the body was transferred to Red Cross teams in central Gaza and was on its way to the occupation forces inside the enclave.
Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced earlier that they would hand over the body at 4:00 PM local time, in accordance with the terms of the US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Netanyahu’s Claims
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes in Gaza, stated earlier on Tuesday that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s delay in handing over the remains of an Israeli captive constitutes a further violation of the ceasefire agreement.
“In light of the Islamic Jihad’s announcement regarding the location of findings related to a deceased hostage, Israel views with severity the delay in their immediate transfer into its hands,” the statement noted. “This constitutes a further violation of the agreement. Israel demands the immediate return of the three deceased hostages still being held in the Gaza Strip.”
Israeli Violations Continue in Gaza as Palestinian Killed near Khan Yunis
The Al-Quds Brigades announced Monday evening that they had found the remains of one of the three remaining Israeli captives in the Gaza Strip “during search operations in areas controlled by the Zionist army in the central Gaza Strip,” without specifying a date for the handover, Al Jazeera Arabic reported.
An anonymous source within the movement reportedly said that “After days of searching in the Al-Maghraqa area, north of the Nuseirat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, our fighters were able to recover the body of one of the three remaining enemy captives, as part of our efforts to resolve this issue.”
Living and Dead Handed Over
Hamas has already released 20 living Israeli captives and handed over the remains of 27 out of 28, most of them Israelis, since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, Anadolu reported. Israel, however, claimed that one of the received bodies did not match any of its listed captives.
Phase one of the ceasefire deal includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.
Since October 2023, the Israeli army has killed nearly 70,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, and injured more than 170,900 others.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Tuesday that hospitals in the Strip received 17 bodies in the past 24 hours.
