A delegation from the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas is currently visiting the Russian capital Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a briefing on Thursday, without providing any further details.

“I can also say and confirm that representatives of the relevant Palestinian movement are on a visit to Moscow. As for contacts, we will inform you further,” Russian news agency Ria Novosti quoted Zakharova as saying.

Ria Novosti reported that it was later informed by the foreign ministry that Hamas deputy leader Mousa Abu Marzouk was part of the delegation.

According to Ria Novosti, “the Foreign Ministry also noted that Russia confirmed its unchanged position (..) on the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with its capital in East Jerusalem”.

For its part, Hamas reportedly said that the parties also discussed ways to stop “Israel’s crimes supported by the West.”

“The movement’s delegation highly appreciated the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as the efforts of active Russian diplomacy,” Hamas added, according to RIA.
