Key Developments
- Iran said the Revolutionary Guard targeted a US air base after American strikes near Bandar Abbas.
- Tehran accused Washington of violating the ceasefire and breaching international law.
- Kuwait announced interceptions of missiles and drones amid escalating regional tensions.
Retaliatory Strike
Iran announced Thursday that it launched a retaliatory strike against a US air base following what Tehran described as a new American violation of the ceasefire agreement near Bandar Abbas.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it targeted the base at 4:50 a.m., identifying it as the location from which the earlier US strike had been launched.
According to a statement carried by Al Mayadeen, the IRGC described the operation as a “serious warning” to Washington, stressing that any future aggression against Iran would face a “more decisive” response.
The statement added that the “aggressor party bears responsibility for all consequences.”
Iranian state media also released footage that the Revolutionary Guard said showed Iran’s response to the American attack carried out earlier near Bandar Abbas airport.

Tehran Condemns Aggression
Iranian officials strongly condemned the reported American operation. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei called the US strike a “blatant violation” of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Iranian officials further said the UN Security Council is obligated to hold the United States accountable for the aggression against Iranian territory.
Reuters earlier quoted a US official as saying American forces launched strikes targeting an Iranian military site in the Strait of Hormuz region while intercepting Iranian drones allegedly threatening US forces and commercial shipping.
Iranian media, however, framed the strikes as a continuation of repeated American ceasefire violations during ongoing negotiations aimed at ending the broader regional conflict.
According to Tasnim news agency, an American oil tanker also attempted to cross Hormuz after disabling its radar system but was forced to retreat after Iranian naval forces intervened.
An Iranian military source cited by the agency said Iranian naval units responded rapidly and opened fire, forcing the vessel to stop and turn back.
The source further claimed that US forces struck areas surrounding Bandar Abbas without causing casualties or major material damage.

Missile and Drone Interceptions
Amid the escalation, Kuwait’s military announced Thursday that its air defense systems intercepted “hostile missiles and drones,” though authorities did not specify their source.
The Kuwaiti army said explosion sounds heard in parts of the country were linked to interception operations conducted by air defense systems. Authorities called on residents to comply with official security instructions.
Kuwait hosts major American military installations, including a US air base, though Kuwaiti authorities did not directly link the intercepted threats to any specific target.
The latest exchange marks another escalation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz despite continuing diplomatic efforts and fragile ceasefire talks between Tehran and Washington.
