Iran expanded regional diplomacy as mediation efforts intensified amid stalled talks and renewed US military threats.

Key Developments

  • Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir met senior Iranian officials as mediation efforts between Tehran and Washington intensified.
  • Qatari and Pakistani diplomatic channels remained active as Tehran hosted multiple regional consultations.
  • Iran dismissed reports of aviation alerts while warning it remains prepared for any new US escalation.

Iran intensified regional diplomatic efforts over the weekend, hosting senior Pakistani officials, Qatari negotiators and high-level regional consultations as mediation efforts aimed at ending the US-Israeli war against Iran gathered momentum.

The flurry of diplomatic activity unfolded amid continuing efforts to preserve the fragile postwar truce reached in April and as Washington continued signaling both limited progress in talks and possible military options should negotiations fail.

The latest diplomatic movement centered on Tehran, where Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of Islamabad’s expanding mediation initiative.

The discussions extended late into the night and focused on diplomatic efforts intended to prevent renewed escalation and bring an end to what Iranian officials described as the imposed war launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The two sides also discussed broader regional security issues and mechanisms for strengthening stability across West Asia. Munir’s visit marked his second trip to Tehran since the start of the aggression on February 28 and reflected Pakistan’s increasingly central role in ongoing negotiations.

Iranian officials, however, stressed that intensified diplomatic movement should not be interpreted as evidence that a breakthrough is imminent.

“These visits are a continuation of the same diplomatic track,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said, according to Tasnim.

He cautioned that “we cannot necessarily say we have reached a stage where an agreement is close.”

Baghaei also confirmed that a Qatari delegation was simultaneously holding negotiations with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, while emphasizing that Pakistan remained the principal mediator between Tehran and Washington.

Parallel diplomatic activity expanded beyond Pakistan and Qatar. Araghchi also held separate phone conversations with his Turkish, Qatari and Iraqi counterparts, discussing bilateral issues and exchanging views regarding recent regional and international developments.

Meanwhile, reports also pointed to broader diplomatic initiatives taking shape. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was expected to discuss a joint Chinese-Pakistani proposal during a visit to Beijing, while Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi remained in Tehran for additional discussions concerning proposals aimed at narrowing disagreements.

The diplomatic activity came as Washington continued balancing negotiation efforts with military pressure.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that there had been some movement in talks with Iran but cautioned against overstatement.

“Everybody wants to reach an agreement with Iran,” Rubio said, adding that negotiations had not yet reached that point.

At the same time, American media continued reporting on military preparations and contingency planning in Washington should diplomacy fail, while Iranian officials maintained that Tehran had prepared “new scenarios” if the United States launched another attack.

Amid speculation regarding possible military developments, Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization also moved Saturday to deny social media reports claiming new aviation alerts had been issued.

The organization said no new notices affecting air navigation had been released and stressed that Iranian airspace remained unchanged and that flights continued according to normal schedules.

The clarification appeared intended to calm public concerns as diplomatic and military developments continue unfolding simultaneously.
