Iranian officials increasingly frame the emerging US-Iran agreement as a strategic victory while negotiations appear closer than ever.

Key Developments

  • Senior Iranian commander Ali Abdollahi said the world will soon hear the “echo of victory” of Iran and the resistance.
  • Iranian and US officials indicated that a memorandum ending the war may be finalized within days.
  • Reports suggest the agreement could include sanctions relief, the release of frozen Iranian assets, arrangements regarding Hormuz, and an end to hostilities.

As negotiations between Tehran and Washington appear to be entering their final stages, senior Iranian political and military figures are increasingly portraying the emerging agreement not as a compromise, but as a strategic victory achieved through military resilience and diplomatic persistence.

The statements come amid mounting indications from both Iranian and American officials that a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending months of conflict could be finalized within days.

Iran Signals Confidence

Speaking on the first anniversary of the killing of Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, the commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Major General Ali Abdollahi, said Iran’s enemies had failed to weaken the country’s defensive resolve.

“The enemy is mistaken if it believes that assassinating military commanders will create a breach in Iran’s defensive will,” Abdollahi said.

He argued that new commanders would always emerge to continue the path of resistance.

“The Iranian people will remain steadfast in the field and continue supporting the armed forces in the face of enemy threats,” he added.

“The world will soon hear the echo of the victory of Iran, the Iranians and the resistance over the enemies.”

Agreement Closer Than Ever

The statements came as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated that the proposed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has moved closer than ever to completion.

“The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has never been closer,” Araghchi wrote on X.

While urging media organizations to avoid speculation about the contents of the agreement before its finalization, Araghchi pledged that all details would be made public once negotiations conclude.

His remarks followed a series of increasingly optimistic statements from officials involved in the mediation process.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Friday that the United States and Iran had reached agreement on the “final text” of a framework intended to end the war.

According to Sharif, Islamabad is now working closely with both parties to complete the remaining procedural steps.

“Peace between the US and Iran has never been this close as it is now,” he said.

Pakistan has played a central mediating role since helping broker the April 8 ceasefire that halted direct military confrontation between the two countries.

Washington Signals Confidence

American officials have also indicated growing confidence that an agreement is within reach.

A senior Trump administration official told reporters Friday that Washington expects an agreement to be signed within the next several days.

“We do expect to be signing this agreement over the next few days,” the official said.

The official estimated confidence in a successful outcome at between 80 and 85 percent.

According to the administration’s claims, the agreement would lead to the dismantling of Iran’s military nuclear infrastructure while permitting a civilian nuclear energy program under international oversight.

The official also said the arrangement would involve the handling and removal of enriched uranium stocks.

Washington further argues that the agreement would create conditions for a broader regional settlement extending beyond Iran itself.

“It includes Lebanon, it includes Iran, it includes the Gulf countries, and includes Israel,” the official said.

Frozen Assets and Sanctions Relief

As negotiations advance, reports continue to emerge regarding the economic dimensions of a potential agreement.

According to Fars News Agency, senior Iranian adviser Mohsen Rezaei said US President Donald Trump had agreed to release approximately $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets.

Rezaei claimed Washington has avoided publicly emphasizing the issue despite its significance to the negotiations.

The report followed earlier comments by Foreign Minister Araghchi indicating that sanctions relief forms a central component of the proposed understanding.

Iranian officials have repeatedly argued that any lasting settlement must include meaningful economic measures capable of reintegrating Iran into international markets.

American officials have similarly acknowledged that compliance with the agreement would trigger phased sanctions relief.

“If they comply, they’re going to be relieved of a lot of the economic pressures that they’ve been under for many, many years,” a senior US official said.

Lebanon and the Wider Region

One of the most consequential aspects of the proposed agreement concerns its regional scope.

Iranian officials have consistently insisted that any understanding with Washington must address developments across multiple fronts rather than focusing solely on the Iranian nuclear file.

Araghchi recently stated that the memorandum would formally end hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.

The issue has become increasingly significant as Israeli attacks continue in southern Lebanon despite repeated ceasefire announcements.

Iran has repeatedly framed support for Lebanon and its resistance movement as an integral part of its regional strategy.

According to officials involved in the negotiations, discussions have also addressed arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints.

Questions Remain

Despite the increasingly optimistic tone, several critical questions remain unresolved.

Neither Tehran nor Washington has publicly released the full text of the proposed memorandum.

Important details concerning sanctions relief, nuclear restrictions, security guarantees and implementation mechanisms have yet to be formally disclosed.

Reports also indicate that the Pentagon has examined contingency plans involving the securing of Iranian nuclear materials should an agreement be reached.

According to CBS News, military planners have discussed scenarios involving Department of Energy specialists and US forces participating in operations related to highly enriched uranium stockpiles.

  1. Sounds like the U.S. and Iran have different ideas…unless Iran capitulated to having the enriched uranium removed. I find it unlikely that Iran agreed to this part of the deal so…

  2. Who believes the US/Israel will abide by any agreement? I’m sure Iran doesn’t. Nor do Palestinians.
