The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting after Israeli airstrikes in Doha targeted Hamas negotiators, killing several aides and a Qatari officer.

The United Nations Security Council will convene an emergency meeting in New York to discuss the recent Israeli airstrikes that targeted Hamas leaders in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The session, requested jointly by Pakistan and Algeria, is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 PM al-Quds time (7:00 PM GMT).

According to South Korea, which holds the rotating presidency of the Council for September, the meeting will address the wider “situation in the Middle East,” with particular focus on Israel’s strike on Qatari territory.

Pakistan and Algeria emphasized in their request that Israel’s actions represent a dangerous escalation in the region and a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, stressing the urgent need for international accountability.

‘A Treacherous Assassination Attempt’

On Tuesday, Hamas strongly denounced what it described as a “treacherous assassination attempt” against its negotiating delegation in Doha.

In a statement, the movement said: “The treacherous attempt by the Zionist occupation to assassinate the Hamas negotiating delegation in Doha today is a heinous crime, a blatant act of aggression, and a flagrant violation of all international norms and laws.”

Hamas stressed that the assault was not only aimed at its delegation but also at Qatar itself, which, alongside Egypt, has played a key role in mediation efforts to end the war, broker a ceasefire, and facilitate a prisoner exchange.

While confirming that senior leaders survived the attack, Hamas said several of its members and security staff were killed.

The victims included Jihad Lubad, office director for senior leader Khalil al-Hayya, and al-Hayya’s son, Hammam. Also killed were Abdullah Abdel Wahed, Mo’men Hassouna, Ahmad al-Mamlouk, and Qatari security officer Badr Saad al-Humaidi.

Hamas linked the strike directly to ongoing talks: “Targeting the negotiating delegation, at the very moment it was discussing the latest proposal of US President Donald Trump, confirms beyond any doubt that Netanyahu and his government do not want to reach any agreement.”

“They are deliberately working to sabotage every opportunity and derail international efforts, regardless of the fate of their prisoners, state sovereignty, or regional security,” the statement added.

The group also accused Washington of complicity, adding: “We hold the US administration jointly responsible with the occupation for this crime, given its constant support for aggression and the crimes of the occupation against our people.”

Israeli–US Coordination

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the operation was carried out in coordination with the United States. Channel 13 quoted a senior Israeli official as confirming that Washington was directly involved in the planning.

Channel 14’s correspondent noted that preparations included at least two high-level meetings in recent days. The first involved the US Central Command chief Gen. Brad Cooper, who, upon arriving in the occupied Palestinian territories, met with Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir. The two reportedly held daily, sometimes twice-daily, communications regarding the operation.

A second meeting was said to have taken place within the past 24 hours between Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and US envoy Steve Witkoff, underscoring the degree of coordination at the political and military levels.
