The Israeli official broadcast authority projected the release of the Israeli prisoners from the Gaza Strip would commence on Monday morning, noting that special military units were placed on high alert in Gaza in preparation.
A video circulating in Israeli media has sparked outrage. It showed Israeli occupation forces mistreating Palestinian prisoners who are being gathered at the Nafha Prison in the south of the country ahead of their release as part of an exchange deal with the Hamas movement.
The footage shows a group of Palestinian detainees with their hands tied behind their backs, forced to walk in a single file while blindfolded and with their heads bowed. They were surrounded by Israeli occupation soldiers and police elements.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office, a rights group, described the video as documenting a painful scene of “brutal abuse” by the Israeli occupation against prisoners scheduled to be freed.
Amjad Al-Najjar, director of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club, noted that a translation of the video suggests these are individuals serving life sentences who are being transferred to Nafha Prison for potential deportation to Gaza under the terms of the deal.

Amid the preparations, witnesses and the Prisoners’ Media Office reported heightened Israeli military activity across the West Bank.
The Israeli army reportedly raided the family home of scheduled-for-release prisoner Murad Ideis in the Beit Umra area south of Hebron. Witnesses also reported raids on several prisoners’ homes across the West Bank to warn families against any celebratory displays for their newly released relatives.
The expected prisoner exchange is part of a broader ceasefire agreement that came into effect on Friday at 12:00 PM Jerusalem time. Under the terms, Israel is set to release 250 Palestinian prisoners, including those serving life sentences, in addition to approximately 1,700 individuals detained from the Gaza Strip after October 7, 2023.

While Tel Aviv estimates that 48 Israeli prisoners remain in Gaza, over 11,100 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons. According to Palestinian and Israeli reports, these detainees often face torture, starvation, and medical neglect, which has led to a number of deaths.
