More than 1,800 Palestinians have been killed and 13,021 injured by Israeli gunfire while seeking aid in the Gaza Strip since late May, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Palestinians seeking aid in Gaza were mostly shot in the head, chest and back by Israeli forces who opened fire on crowds, according to foreign doctors who volunteered in the enclave, the Washington Post reported on Monday.
More than 1,800 Palestinians have been killed and 13,021 injured at or near aid distribution points run by the controversial US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) since the end of May, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Doctors in Gaza say they have been treating victims of mass shootings almost daily after crowds of Palestinians seeking food are fired on.

“If the food distribution center opens at 6 a.m., the mass-casualty event starts at 4:30,” Rieke Hayes, an Irish volunteer physiotherapist, told the paper. “If it opens at 12 o’clock, the injuries start coming around 10 a.m.”
Hayes worked at a Red Crescent clinic in southern Gaza during GHF’s first five weeks of operations. She said many of her patients had been shot in their legs and arms, with some shot in the back.
‘Traumas Went on’ for Hours
On some days, the clinic received “more than 100 victims, according to the clinic’s log,” the report stated.
Likewise, at the Nasser Hospital, the largest medical facility still functioning in southern Gaza, casualties exceeded 100 on some days.
“There were clusters of particular body parts being injured on particular days.”

One particular day, June 17, was the worst in his two weeks spent in the enclave, said Aziz Rahman, an American intensive care specialist from Milwaukee, in the US.
“The traumas went on for four to five hours. They just kept rolling in,” he said, with doctors “trying not to slip on the blood” between patients they triaged on the floor.

Rahman, who was part of a medical mission with Rahma Worldwide, a humanitarian group based in Michigan, said, “Pretty much every day the aid sites were opened, we saw shootings.”
On June 24, one of his patients was a 9-year-old boy shot in the spine.
Zikim Border Killings
Nour Sharaf, an emergency room doctor from Dallas, told the paper that her worst day was July 20, when she was working at the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
The hospital received 1,024 patients that day, she said, with many malnourished.
Most had come that day from near the Zikim border crossing, where a large crowd of Palestinians awaiting food aid were fired upon by Israeli occupation forces.

The UN World Food Program said that as its aid convoy approached, “the surrounding crowd came under fire from Israeli tanks, snipers and other gunfire.”
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 66 Palestinians were killed and over 100 injured in the attack.
‘Impossible to Deliver Treatment’
Mark Brauner, an American surgeon from Oregon who served at Nasser Hospital, recalled how he walked out of the ER one day, and was “taken aback by what he saw,” the report stated.
“I walked out and there were just lines of bodies and people that had severe injuries that would have met the criteria for the trauma resuscitation room,” he said.
The paper stated that each medical worker said that Israel’s bombing of medical facilities in Gaza, “combined with a near-total blockade of the enclave since the winter, has often made it impossible for doctors to deliver adequate treatment.”
In addition, medical workers said that a shortage of oxygen tanks “has forced staff to choose whom to save” while “a dearth of wheelchairs and crutches at times forces families to carry away disabled relatives in their arms.”
‘Orchestrated Killing’ – MSF
The GHF-run aid distribution mechanism has been condemned by various human rights organizations as well as the UN as “death traps”.
Last week, the French medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) described the aid scheme as “orchestrated killing and dehumanization,” which must be shut down.
‘Not Aid, Orchestrated Killing’ – MSF Demands Immediate Dismantling of GHF
In a 26-page report titled ‘This is Not Aid. This is Orchestrated Killing,’ MSF said that an analysis of medical data, patients’ testimonies, and first-hand medical witnessing at two MSF clinics in Gaza, points to both targeted and indiscriminate violence by Israeli forces and private American contractors against starved Palestinians at GHF-run aid sites.
MSF said its teams were “mentally prepared for responding to conflict — but not to civilians “killed and maimed” while seeking aid.
“They were not prepared for treating starving and unarmed Palestinians who had been gunned down as if they were animals, often while penned into metal-gated areas. The medical data is clear. This is not aid. It is orchestrated killing,” the organization stated.
Rising Death Toll
Since Israel’s reneging on the ceasefire on March 18, it has killed and wounded thousands of Palestinians throughout the Gaza Strip through a bloody and ongoing aerial bombardment.
On October 7, 2023, following a Palestinian Resistance operation in southern Israel, the Israeli military launched a genocidal war against the Palestinians, killing over 61,000, wounding more than 153,000, with over 14,000 still missing.

Despite habitual condemnation by many countries around the world of the Israeli genocide, little has been done to hold Israel accountable.
Israel is currently under investigation for the crime of genocide by the International Court of Justice, while accused war criminals — including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — are now officially wanted by the International Criminal Court.
The Israeli genocide has been largely defended, supported, and financed by Washington and a few other Western powers.
