A Palestinian man due to marry Saturday was killed in Khan Yunis as rights groups reported rising casualties across Gaza.

Key Developments

  • Palestinian groom-to-be Muhand Othman Farawna was killed when Israeli forces struck his tent in Khan Yunis.
  • The Gaza Center for Human Rights documented 534 Palestinians killed and 1,782 wounded during the first five months of 2026.
  • The organization said the continuing casualties reflect a pattern of systematic violence despite ongoing ceasefire negotiations.

Hours before Wedding

A Palestinian man was killed early Saturday after Israeli forces targeted a tent in central Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

Medical sources identified the victim as Muhand Othman Farawna, who was reportedly preparing to celebrate his wedding later that day.

According to local medical officials, Farawna was killed when Israeli shelling struck the tent where he was staying.

His death adds to the growing number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks despite the ceasefire agreement that came into effect in October 2025.

Rising Casualties

The Gaza Center for Human Rights said newly compiled figures reveal a continuing rise in casualties across the Gaza Strip during the first five months of 2026.

In a statement, the organization said it documented the killing of 534 Palestinians between January 1 and June 5, 2026, averaging nearly seven deaths every 48 hours.

The center also recorded 1,782 injuries during the same period, equivalent to roughly 11 wounded Palestinians each day.

According to the organization, the figures demonstrate a sustained pattern of human losses over more than five months and indicate the continuation of serious violations against Palestinians in Gaza.

The center said the ongoing casualties have further strained a healthcare system and social infrastructure already devastated by months of war and blockade.

Beyond the Numbers

The organization stressed that the figures represent more than statistical data.

“Behind every number is a painful human story,” the center said, noting that each victim leaves behind grieving relatives and communities while survivors often face long-term physical and psychological suffering.

The center said the period from January through early June witnessed not only direct military attacks but also forced displacement, starvation and widespread targeting throughout the Gaza Strip.

It argued that these overlapping forms of violence reflect the scale of the humanitarian crisis facing Gaza’s population.

Attacks Continue amid Negotiations

The rights organization pointed to recent Israeli attacks as evidence of continuing escalation despite ongoing efforts to consolidate the ceasefire.

Among the incidents cited was an attack carried out last Thursday that targeted four residential apartments in Gaza City.

According to the center, the strikes killed ten Palestinians, including four women and a child, while dozens of others were wounded.

The organization noted that the escalation occurred ahead of a new round of discussions involving Palestinian factions and mediators seeking to reinforce the ceasefire agreement.

It argued that the timing of the attacks cannot be separated from the broader political and negotiating context.

According to the center, continued attacks on civilians and the rising death toll risk creating new realities on the ground while negotiations are underway.

Calls for International Action

The Gaza Center for Human Rights said the figures it documented—equivalent to one Palestinian being killed approximately every six hours—constitute evidence of serious violations of international humanitarian law and protections afforded to civilians during armed conflict.

The organization called on the United Nations, international human rights bodies and the wider international community to take urgent action to halt attacks on Gaza, ensure civilian protection and support independent investigations into alleged violations.

The appeal comes as Palestinians across the Gaza Strip continue to face ongoing attacks, displacement and worsening humanitarian conditions despite repeated efforts to secure and preserve a lasting ceasefire.
