Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital warned that failing generators have halted vital services, threatening hundreds of patients in central Gaza.
Key Developments
- Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital warned that its electricity crisis has entered a “very dangerous phase.”
- A fourth generator has gone out of service, leaving critical departments at risk of shutdown.
- More than 50 percent of hospital services have already been suspended.
- Dialysis, neonatal, intensive care and laboratory departments face possible collapse.
‘Very Dangerous Phase’
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, the only government hospital serving central Gaza, warned on Sunday that its healthcare system is approaching collapse after the failure of a fourth electricity generator, threatening the lives of hundreds of patients and wounded Palestinians who depend on its services.
In an urgent statement, the hospital administration said the electricity crisis had entered a “very dangerous phase,” warning that the continued breakdown of generators could lead to a catastrophic interruption of life-saving medical care.
The hospital explained that its remaining generators have become severely worn after operating continuously for more than three years under extraordinary conditions created by Israel’s war and siege on the Gaza Strip.
Despite repeated engineering and technical interventions, hospital officials said the generators are no longer capable of meeting the daily needs of critical departments.

Critical Services at Risk
According to the hospital administration, the worsening power crisis has already forced the shutdown of operating rooms and caused the suspension of more than half of the medical services provided by the facility.
Hospital officials warned that dialysis units, neonatal care departments, intensive care units, and medical laboratories could cease functioning at any moment.
The administration said the crisis poses a direct threat to the lives of hundreds of patients and wounded people who rely on those departments for survival.
Medical teams are also struggling to maintain basic services as electricity shortages affect the operation of essential medical equipment throughout the hospital.
The situation has become increasingly severe as temperatures continue to rise across Gaza, increasing the need for electricity to operate cooling systems, ventilation equipment and temperature-sensitive medical devices.
Hospital officials warned that the combination of power shortages and extreme heat is placing both patients and medical staff at growing risk.
A Lifeline for Central Gaza
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital occupies a critical place within Gaza’s healthcare system. Located in Deir Al-Balah, it is the only government hospital serving the central governorate and provides healthcare for more than half a million Palestinians, including residents of the area and large numbers of displaced people who fled Israeli attacks in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip.
Hospital administrators warned that any interruption of services would trigger a large-scale humanitarian and health disaster across central Gaza.
They appealed to international organizations, humanitarian agencies and relevant authorities to intervene immediately by providing a permanent and stable electricity supply, establishing direct power connections and introducing new generators to replace the deteriorating units.
The administration stressed that the situation is worsening “hour by hour” and warned that delays in responding could have catastrophic consequences.

‘Permanent Exhaustion’
The warning came as Palestinian resistance factions accused Israel of continuing to violate the ceasefire agreement that took effect in October 2025.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the factions said Israel continues a policy of killings, assassinations, attacks, siege measures, and starvation aimed at keeping Gaza in a state of “permanent exhaustion.”
The factions argued that these actions form part of a broader strategy intended to pressure Palestinians and undermine the ceasefire agreement while prolonging the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
The latest warning from Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital highlights the continuing deterioration of Gaza’s healthcare sector, which has been repeatedly targeted and severely weakened during Israel’s war on the Strip.
Throughout the war, Israeli occupation forces carried out attacks on hospitals and medical facilities across Gaza, while medical personnel, emergency workers and healthcare infrastructure came under repeated assault, contributing to the near-collapse of the territory’s health system.
