The Israeli occupation forces abducted the bodies of the Resistance fighters before withdrawing from the town.

Two Palestinian Resistance fighters were killed by Israeli army fire after soldiers besieged a house during a raid on the town of Tammun, south of Tubas, in the occupied West Bank on Thursday. An Israeli army patrol unit was subsequently targeted by resistance fighters at a checkpoint in the town of Al-Bireh.

Mohammad Qasem Suleiman, 29, and Alaa Jawdat Bani Odeh, 20, clashed with Israeli occupation forces for hours, before the army bombed the besieged house six times with Energa missiles, according to an Al Jazeera Arabic report.

The army then declared the area a closed military zone before withdrawing and abducting the bodies of the two fighters.

The raid on Tammun began shortly after midnight when special units infiltrated the town, encircled a residential building, provoking confrontations in the area, according to the Anadolu news agency. The report cited witnesses as saying the army brought in heavy reinforcements, deploying large numbers of infantry and snipers around the neighborhood. Troops also fired several shells at the targeted house.

According to Quds News Network (Arabic), Qassim is the brother of another resistance fighter, Ahmed Qassim, who had previously been assassinated by Israeli forces.

Army Patrol Targeted

The Ramallah battalion of the Al-Quds Brigades later issued a statement saying it targeted an Israeli occupation army patrol “with intense bursts of bullets” at the Saht Marhaba checkpoint in the city of Al-Bireh, following the killing of the two fighters.

The statement noted the battalion had achieved “confirmed hits” among the army’s ranks.

Scores Detained

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces arrested 20 Palestinians in the West Bank during the early hours of Thursday, including a journalist from the town of Sa’ir, north of Hebron (al-Khalil), and a child from the town of Kafr Ra’i, in Jenin, Al Jazeera Arabic reported.

More arrests were carried out during a raid on the town of Bruqin, west of Salfit, as well as in the governorates of Ramallah, Hebron, Tulkarm, and Qalqilya.

In Ramallah, six Palestinians were detained, including two from the town of Beit Rima northwest of Ramallah and one from his home in the Al-Masayef neighborhood of Ramallah city. Additional detentions were reported in the village of Dura al-Qare’ and the village of Abu Qash after house searches, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

In Hebron, Israeli forces detained five Palestinians and held dozens during raids in the southern West Bank governorate, the report stated, while four more Palestinians were detained from the town of Sa’ir northeast of Hebron, and one was detained from Al-Fawwar refugee camp in the south.

Israeli forces also raided homes in the town of Beit Kahel northwest of Hebron, conducting searches and ransacking property, the report added.

Amid Israel’s ongoing genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank has witnessed widespread attacks that have resulted in the deaths of at least 1,044 Palestinians, the injury of 10,000, and the arrest of more than 19,000, according to official Palestinian data, cited by Al Jazeera Arabic.
